Bib cards are a good way to keep track of your sources. Doing a thorough job on them simplifies construction of your annotated bibliography later.

Here is the format to follow.

1. Write on a 3 x 5 white note card.
2. Use black ink.
3. Begin your citation on the second line of the card.
4. Provide a complete and correct bibliographical citation using MLA format. (Consult the handouts in the Freshman English Handbook or use Noodlebib.)
5. Skip a line after the MLA citation, write "1," and then summarize the information the source contains. A good summary can be written in one or two grammatically correct sentences.
6. Skip a line, write "2," and then indicate how you may use this source for your project. Be thorough. Use the back of the card if necessary, but don't continue onto a second side. That's going overboard.
7. Provide a classification symbol in pencil in the right hand corner of the card.
8. Write your full name, date, and English section on the back of the card.
