Since Arnold loves to draw cartoons to go along with the text in the book, this assignment is about pictures.
Find an image online or draw one yourself that illustrates some section of the text that doesn't have a cartoon in the book. If you get an image from online, make sure the copyright allows you to use it. If you draw one yourself, scan the picture onto your computer or ask a friend with a scanner to do so for you. There is also a scanner available in the Mac Lab. You could also draw an image using a program such as Paint, then post it. Be creative! Try to think of an image that will be unique.
Post the image on the page that corresponds to your class. Put your name under your picture. If you get it from the web, include the bibliographic information for the website you took it from under the image. If your image has a Creative Commons license, place what number or kind it is under the bibliographic information. Also, write a sentence or two about how your picture relates to the book. Please be reasonable about picture size. See the examples below for a general idea of appropriate sizes.

Places to start your search

  • Check out http://www.freefoto.com/index.jsp. These images can be used as long as there is a link back to the site. Just make a link in your citation.
  • Also, try http://www.sdst.org/shs/library/cfimages.html. It has numerous links to helpful websites, but make sure the site you are using doesn't require asking permission, unless you plan on writing a letter or email or making a phone call.
  • You can use the search function from Creative Commons, which allows you to search places including Google, Yahoo!, and Flickr for images that you can use under a Creative Commons license.
